Wal-Mart said on TuesdaycrouchinghiddentigerHundreds of company positions will be cutcrouchinghiddentiger, and will move most of its remaining remote office employees to its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas.

On Tuesday, Wal-Mart's chief personnel officer Donna Morris confirmed the move in a memo sent to employees.

Morris said in the memorandum that the decision to relocate employees and require other remote employees to return to the office was to promote better cooperation, innovation and "move faster."

"We also believe that this will help strengthen our culture and promote employee growth and development," she said in the memo.

The relocation will affect most employees in Walmart's Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto offices. While most employees will be moved to Bentonville headquarters, some employees will be moved to Wal-Mart offices in the San Francisco Bay Area or Hoboken, New Jersey, and New York areas.

"In addition, some of our businesses have been restructured, which will result in the reduction of hundreds of campus positions," Morris said in the memo. "While the overall number is small, we are focused on supporting every employee affected by these changes."

Wal-Mart is expected to report its latest quarterly earnings on Thursday. The latest round of layoffs at the world's largest retailer comes after Wal-Mart announced last month that it would withdraw from virtual medical services and closed all 51 medical centers in six U.S. states.

Also last month, customers of the giant learned they could be entitled to up to $500 in damages as part of a class-action settlement by the retailer that alleges the retailer overcharged certain products.
